    This video does a whole lotta whining about everything the Mini service plan DOESN'T do. And all the hate in the comments?! FFS, some of you really need to work on your coping skills. I'm going to go thru the list of negatives in the video and instead focus on what it DOES do: ~ $30/mo - PERFECT!! It's an ADD ON. It could easily have been $50 or higher. ~ Only can be added to Standard (Residential), $12O/mo - PERFECT!! I have service at a fixed location in southern Utah where I cannot get cable or other high speed service. My router serves two tiny homes side by side. I also travel a lot - not nomading for long periods - and spend 1-3 days in remote areas where cellular is poor or non-existent, so this is where the mini comes in handy. ~ Only includes 50GB of mobile data ($1/GB after that) - PERFECT!! Again, it's an ADD ON to serve where cellular does not. 50GB in a month is plenty sufficient for the amount and type of travel I do. The smaller size, weight and built-in router just makes it all the better. For years I paid nearly the same for Verizons highest mobile hotspot bandwidth, and it was only 15GB. ~ Can not pause - PERFECT!! This is not supposed to be a service for RVers/Nomaders. There are other service plans already for those users: Mobile and Roam. ~ US Use Only - PERFECT!! ~ No In Motion or Ocean Use - ALMOST PERFECT!! OK, so yeah. In Motion would have been nice, but let's go back to the price... $30/mo! On most of these points, let's also remember that this is just an initial service offering and the options will likely be expanded in the not-too-distant future. Pause the hate just a moment, take a deep breath, and think about how far Starlink has come in just a little over three years (plans launched March 2021) How easily we forget that prior to that, the best thing out there was HughesNet, which sure as shit wasn't fast, unlimited, reliable, mobile, in-motion or well... usable. HOWEVER... $600 for the dish itself?! Yeah, that stings. I get that miniaturization costs money and we're paying for the new tech (especially built-in router). Also, this is likely an initial price for early adopters and the price will come down. But the dish price is the ONLY factor I'm bummed about. So now I'm debating whether to go ahead and order now or hold off and see what happens a little down the road.

      Glad that the initial offering in the US meets your unique needs and use case. However this channel is aimed at mobile internet solutions for RVers, boaters and nomads - and that is the angle we evaluate options from. And from that perspective, this plan is not a PERFECT fit for our core audience, as had been hoped for. Perhaps one day it will be.. but it is our purpose to keep our nomadic community educated on their options.

    IMO, It's a wasted opportunity that Starlink Mini is primarily envisioned to be AC powered. If Mini is intended to be used by people Backpacking, Hiking, maybe Off-Roading or otherwise going off-gird with limited access to AC Power, it would have been better to be directly USB-C powered rather then requiring a special adapter cable for a DC Barrel. Also, why does it need a 100W (20V5A) USB-PD supply if the Dish only consumes under 30W? Possibly it's to allow to the potential usage of the snow melting heater. but if that feature can be disable, could a user get away with using lower wattage USB-PD such as 60W (20V3A)?

    • @MobileInternetResourceCenter
      @MobileInternetResourceCenter 15 часов назад

      The USB-C connector is not sufficiently secure and waterproof for permanent outdoor installation. That is why the barrel connector is needed.

  • @TheWolfHowling
    @TheWolfHowling 23 часа назад

    Another hypothesis. Maybe the prices in Developed Countries, such as the US, have be somewhat inflated in order to “subsidised” hardware & plans in the developing world. Starlink Subscribers from Higher Income Countries could absorb these increased costs in a way that those that are in Latin America, as example, can’t. SpaceX wants to grow their customer base so they could be open to a little peter robbing for marketshare

    • @SPDLTD

      Or the demand in those undeveloped countries is very low, and thus the satellites sit mostly idle as they cross them, so charging anything is a bonus. Once the sat comes in range of the continental US the load becomes massive.

I was considering it but until I can buy the mini for $200 and have unlimited data for no more than $35/month and pause it for the off season I will not bite. The $120/month is more than Musk deserves.

    Starlink is competitive with the few local offerings we have for fiber IPs, with better connection than those currenty have. So I'm fine with the regional difference in pricing of Starlink service as long as it is helping continue to build up the infrastructure to give folks in those countries affordable access to Starlink as an IP.

    That happens to all industries in America but Americans are not informed. Nearly all new medicines are discovered in America but drugs are sold at 10x, 50x or even 100x higher in America so that Pharma companies can quickly recoup of R&D cost and make good profits. For Rest of World, it is something "good to have" extra so that they can make whatever money they can make in ROW. Drug price for same drug is 50% cheaper in EU, 90% cheaper in China, free in India (because india is allowed to copycat for free), nearly free in Egypt or similar countries. To be fair, ROW do get drugs of same molecules domestically made (not made in US or Canada).
